Storage
Lockers
Lockers have been a storage solution for many
years. We now find ourselves in an ever-increasing
world where not only is space an essential daily
consideration but most importantly security.
Security can be dealt with in a number of ways
dependant on where and what the lockers are being
used for, but with individual keys, master keys,
combination locks or even coin return/coin retain
facilities – lockers can ensure that security
can be managed easily, whatever the application.
Lockers offer a practical solution for areas where
there are many individuals at any one time, needing
storage of many different items. With educational
establishments being an excellent example of this
need for storage, for staff or pupils, the facility
to have up to 6 doors within one column is superb
value and design. Not only this, but with the
fact that groups of lockers can be ‘nested’
together, bolted securely by the manufacturer
–this allows for a full combination to be
installed without the concern of columns moving
apart from one another.
Not only in steel, but with timber lockers now
available the requirement for lockers can be extended
into health clubs, hospitals, staffroom and offices.
Multi-use steel lockers are useful to industrious
working areas that offer not just standard locker
compartments but incorporate hanging rails and
cloakroom-type seating or shelving. In other more
cloakroom-type areas where lockers are required,
mesh lockers can be obtained but obviously do
not offer security, but great storage and visibility.
Bench seating is also a common extra for a standard
locker combination. Another alternative available
has been designed specifically for staff uniforms
so that dirty clothes can be deposited in one
large compartment & clean can be retrieved
from a specific individual compartment.
Unique designs on certain brands offer perforated
doors so that airflow is still possible, depending
on the items that may be stored within each compartment.
Plus this also allows for any applications where
visibility may be required. Add to this the variety
of colours and sizes available, the steel locker
can be purchased for any number of compartments,
of any size – plus with low level lockers
allowing easier wheelchair or child access.
Additional developments brought into the market
for the standard locker is to opt for a sloping
canopy top. This possibly avoids the top of the
locker to be used as storage or for collecting
unwanted & mostly unseen refuse. Locker stands
can be purchased that lift the whole locker unit
off the ground, enabling access for cleaning and
airflow. The locker pod has also introduced a
further space saving solution with a carousel-type
design where a group of many locker compartments
can be stored but with only one access point at
any one time.
The major UK manufacturers of lockers now also
take pride in heard-wearing anti-bacterial powder
coating to provide the most stringent hygienic
environment. This impedes the growth and migration
of potentially harmful bacteria, mold, fungi,
algae and more – reducing the risk of cross-contamination
from surface to surface.
For places such as nurseries, schools, colleges
or healthcare and catering establishments the
requirement for lockers is high. With considerations
of space available, potential use, security and
style – lockers really can offer a full
solution.
